About us
The Association of Jewish Cantors is a professional body representing cantors (chazanim) of all Jewish denominations in Germany – from Orthodox to Liberal.
Our mission is to support Jewish cantors both in their religious role and in their professional life. Founded in 2022 and registered as a non-profit organization, the association is led by:

Cantor Amnon Seelig
Jüdische Gemeinde Mannheim,
Chairman

Cantor Assaf Levitin
Egalitarian Minyan, Jewish Congregation in Stuttgart,
Co-Chairman

Cantor Yonatan Amrani
Treasurer
Our History
The Association of Jewish Cantors was established in 2022 by synagogue cantors from across Germany, representing all Jewish streams from Orthodox to Reform. It continues the legacy of the original Association of Jewish Cantors, founded in 1905 and forcibly dissolved by the Nazi regime in 1939.
Our purpose is to strengthen and train Jewish cantors in their sacred duties – leading worship, officiating at life-cycle events, teaching, and preserving the art of German-Jewish Chazanut. We offer our members professional development and mutual support through cooperation, networking, and shared experience.
