Music studies in Darmstadt, several semesters of Jewish Studies in Frankfurt and in a yeshiva in Jerusalem. Intensive courses in Yiddish in Britain and Israel.

Concerts and workshops since 1983 in (i.a.) Britain, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Israel and the USA. Numerous radio and television recordings as well as five highly acclaimed CDs.

Kempin is the cantor of the Egalitarian Minyan in the Frankfurt Jewish Community, also in the Jewish Community in Göttingen. He was ordained through ALEPH Alliance for Jewish Renewal in 2015.

Active in a variety of interfaith projects. Member of the “Council of Religions in Frankfurt” as well as co-founder and co-director of the “Interfaith Choir Frankfurt” (IRCF).
